To be honest, previously,
I used to take the use of social media in the promotion of well-known campaigns
skeptically. Because for me, as for 20 years old student, the social media,
presenting by Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and so on was no more than sort of entertainment
and tool of interaction with my friends. But, since my major is supposed to be
the one, which change our general views on media world, with all its
advantages, possible dangers and clear power, my views on the media, and
particularly social media changed a lot.
Now I see the
social media as a significantly important tool in making Public Relations. It
is important to consider that social media mostly rely on the Internet, which provides
them with a great power, which helps companies to overcome the obstacles concerning
the distribution of the information and attraction of the new clients.
The recent examples
of the skilful use of the social media in promotion of the brands or its
separate items demonstrates us the originality and freshness of the idea of
using social media for PR campaigns. The one of such the excellent examples is
a recent “Tweet and Eat Cheap” campaign. The aim of the campaign provided by
the Innocent and Holler Digital was “to promote the food brand’s vegetable pots”.
The idea of the
following PR campaign was the attraction of the clients through the use of
social media. To be concrete, “…the
promotion offered discounts on its vegetable pots, with the size of the
discount depending on the number of people tweeted the hashtag #tweetandeat.”
The power of the
given campaign is the group-buying power. The use of a hashtag in making the guarantee
that all the people, who follow you on Twitter, or Facebook will also be
informed about given (The Innocent) campaign, and as a result, most of them
will be automatically subjected to the media influence of the following
campaign.

I have to agree with this post and I really enjoyed reading it. I have also had the tendency to think of Twitter and Facebook as they are only means of entertainment and they help to keep us in touch with friends.
ОтветитьУдалитьI support your statement, that this 'naive' attitude changed over time and now that you are more aware, you see things differently. For example, realizing that PR uses social networks for promoting different products/persons, etc.
Also, you correctly mentioned that Internet is a tool of great power, which makes it easier for companies to communicate with the users/audience and also to attract new clients.
